Dolphins by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 26 October 2006 at 6:04 pm

The Dolphins have been pathetic on offense all season only averaging 14.6 points per game.  The Dolphins average 88.1 yards rushing and 4.0 yards per carry…and they always give up on the run too soon.  The Dolphins average 235.3 net yards passing per game and complete 59.6% of their passes.

The Dolphins are allowing 20.7 points per game, but alot of them have been set up by the Fins terrible offense!  The Dolphins allow 102.1 yards rushing per game, but only 3.3 yards per carry. The Fins hold teams to 174.4 net yards passing, but 60.1% completions.

Saban starts to lose team in 34-24 loss

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 23 October 2006 at 11:07 pm

The Dolphins completely stunk up Joe Robbie Stadium on Sunday.  The defense, which has been solid all season, even stunk against the Packers.  Joey Harrington completed 33 of 62 passes for 414 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INT.  RB Ronnie Brown ran the ball 15 times for 59 yards (3.9 ypc) and caught 5 passes for 63 yards.  WR Marty Booker had a good game catching 7 passes for 110 yards and a TD.  TE Randy McMichael caught 7 passes for 77 yards.  Rookie WR Derek Hagan caught 5 passes for 53 yards and a TD.  Wes Welker caught 6 passes for 38 yards.

The defense had their worst game of the season against the Packers.  The Packers ran the ball 29 times for 155 yards (5.3 ypc).  The Dolphins allowed the Packers to complete 19 of 35 passes for 191 net yards passing.  LB Channing Crowder came to play with 11 tackles.  DE/LB Jason Taylor also had a good game with 3 tackles and 2 sacks.

Coach Nick Saban is losing his team, and there’s a long way to go in the season.  This could get ugly.

Dolphins vs. Packers

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 18 October 2006 at 1:16 pm

The good news for these two teams is…..someone has to win this week.  The Packers (1-4) and Dolphins (1-5) have been two of the worst teams in the league this season.  It was expected that the Packers would struggle, but many had projected the Dolphins to be a Super Bowl dark horse.

The Dolphins have a stingy defense, but they can be passed on and I think that will be the Packers gameplan.  The Dolphins only allow 171.7 yards passing per game, but opponents are very efficient against them posting a QB rating of 94.3.  The offensive line has blocked much better than Brett Favre could have imagined in his wildest dreams, only allowing 7 sacks so far this season.  If they block that well against the Dolphins and keep Jason Taylor (5 sacks) away from Favre, he should have a good game throwing the ball.  WRs Donald Driver (26 rec, 343 yards) and Greg Jennings (20 rec, 364 yards) will cause major match-up problems for the Dolphins secondary.  RB Ahman Green should be back this week, which should also help Favre, because he likes to throw to him out of the backfield.

Look for the Dolphins to lean towards the pass more this week than the run.  The Packers defense is allowing 275.8 net yards passing per game!  Joey Harrington just needs to relax and hope that when he hits his receivers in the hands that they catch the ball.  Two of Harrington’s INT bounced right of WRs hands.  Chris Chambers could have the breakout game the Dolphins have been waiting for.  Chambers is only averaging 10.4 yards per catch, which is weak for him.  Look for Wes Welker (33 rec, 355 yards) and Randy McMichael (24 rec, 269 yards) to have good games too.  RB Ronnie Brown needs to balance the offense out and keep the clock running.  Brown has 405 yards rushing and 153 yards receiving so far this season.

I think the Dolphins are the better team, but that doesn’t mean they will win.  The Packers do have a huge edge at QB, so you never know.

Dolphins make a minor move

The Dolphins waived WR Cliff Russell and activated rookie WR Marcus Vick from the practice squad.  This could be the chance Vick has been waiting for to prove himself.

Dolphins safeties racking up tackles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 17 October 2006 at 9:33 am

This is usually a bad thing for defenses when safeties rack up tackles.  But the Dolphins defense has been on the field a long time in games because the offense has been playing bad.  FS Reynaldo Hill has 37 tackles this year and SS Tavares Tillman had 36 tackles.  These guys are solid players, but they don’t make big plays, which is what the defense needs to do with the offense not playing well.

Dolphins lose another close one 20-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 15 October 2006 at 9:24 pm

I’m starting to get the feeling that Nick Saban is over his head as an NFL head coach.  He’s getting out-coached almost every Sunday this season.  Joey Harrington completed 27 of 43 passes for 266 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Ronnie Brown finally broke out and had a good game carrying the ball 22 times for 127 yards (5.8 ypc) and a TD.  TE Randy McMichael caught 8 passes for 72 yards.  Rookie WR Derek Hagan caught 6 passes for 66 yards.  Chris Chambers caught 5 passes for 60 yards and a TD.  Everyone’s favorite, Wes Welker pitched in 6 catches for 56 yards.

The Dolphins defense played another good game.  The Dolphins held the Jets to 103 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.8 ypc).  The Jets completed 17 of 29 passes for 169 net yards passing.  LBs Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder each had 10 tackles.  FS Reynaldo Hill had nine tackles.

This loss hurts, because they wasted another good effort by the defense.

Dolphins TE to miss game

Dolphins TE Justin Peele is out for Sunday’s game (knee) with the Jets.  Jason Rader will replace him.

Dolphins vs. Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 12 October 2006 at 5:44 pm

The Dolphins are wasting great defensive play (263.6 yards per game) because of their pathetic offensive play (284.2 yards per game) so far this season.  The Dolphins must win this game, because if they fall to 1-5 they might as well play young players and get ready for next year.  The Jets on the other hand are on the fast track in their rebuilding effort.  The Jets are 2-3, but they’ve been in every game except the last one (41-0 loss to Jacksonville).

If the Dolphins don’t have a good game on offense this week….they might never have one.  The Dolphins should come out running Ronnie Brown (278 yards rushing) against the porous Jets run defense.  Teams are averaging 148.6 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry against the Jets defense.  As soon as the run is established, Joey Harrington should go to the air.  The Jets are allowing 216.4 yards passing per game this season, but they do have 5 interceptions this year, so Harrington will have to be careful.  Chris Chambers (21 rec, 210 yards) needs to get going this season and this is the perfect team to get it started against.  Wes Welker (27 rec, 299 yards) and TE Randy McMichael (16 rec, 197 yards) should be able to get open against the Jets too.

The Jets will try out their newest weapon on the Dolphins defense.  Rookie RB Leon Washington might be small, but he’s fast.  Washington has 159 yards rushing this season and he’s a good receiver out of the backfield and will challenge the Dolphins OLBs.  If the Jets protect Chad Pennington well, he will have a good day throwing against the Dolphins.  The Dolphins haven’t given up alot of yards passing (172.2 per game), but opposing QBs have been very efficient (93.2 QB rating) against their defense.  WRs Laveranues Coles (33 rec, 431 yards) and Jerricho Cotchery (22 rec, 333 yards) could have field days against the Dolphins secondary.  Watch TE Chris Baker if he draws Zach Thomas to cover him, because Baker will have a tremendous speed advantage in that case.

The Dolphins have the more talented team on paper, but games aren’t played on paper.  I’m going with the Jets until the Dolphins do something this season.

Dolphins lose two players to injury

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 4:40 pm

WR Marty Booker will miss at least 2 weeks with a pectoral injury.  Wes Welker will take his spot in the starting line-up and rookie Derek Hagan will replace Welker as the #3 WR.

CB Travis Daniels will be out at least 2 weeks with an injured knee.  Andre Goodman will take his spot.   Look for the Jets to come after Goodman on Sunday.
