Be glad Nick Saban is gone after this last pathetic draft

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by ravenhater on Tuesday 30 January 2007 at 1:05 pm

Dolphins fans should be glad that Nick Saban has left town.  Maybe now they will have a good draft.  Here’s the breakdown of last April’s mess:

1st round pick FS Jason Allen has the look of a bust.  He played in all 16 games and made 20 tackles, had an interception and defensed a pass.

3rd round pick WR Derek Hagan has the look of a #3 or #4 receiver on a good football team.  He played in all 16 games and made 21 catches for 221 yards (10.5 avg) with 1 TD catch.

4th round pick OT Joe Toledo didn’t play one down as a rookie.

7th round pick DT Fred Evans played in 1 game and made 2 tackles.

The other two 7th round picks never saw the field.  DT Rodrique Wright is still with the team, but WR Devin Aromashodu didn’t even make the team.

Dolphins running backs were underachievers this season

A broken hand cost Ronnie Brown some time this season but he played well when he got the chance.  He played in 13 games (12 starts) and carried the ball 241 times for 1,008 yards (4.2 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He also caught 33 passes for 276 yards (8.4 avg).  For his career, Brown played in 28 games (26 starts) and he carried the ball 448 times for 1,915 yards (4.3 ypc) with 9 TD runs.  He also has caught 65 passes for 508 yards (7.8 avg) with 1 TD catch.

Sammy Morris missed the start of the season due to a drug suspension by the NFL.  He returned and played decent while Morris was hurt.  He played in 12 games this season (4 starts) and he carried the ball 92 times for 400 yards (4.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 21 passes for 162 yards (7.7 avg).  For his career, Morris has played in 94 games (23 starts) and has carried the football 374 times for 1,469 yards (3.9 ypc) with 14 TD runs.  He also has caught 112 passes for 792 yards (7.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.

Travis Minor didn’t play alot for the Dolphins this season.  He carried the ball 19 times for 74 yards (3.9 ypc) and he caught 3 passes for only 2 yards (0.7 avg).  For his career, Minor has played in 91 games (4 starts) and he has carried the ball 277 times for 1,133 yards (4.1 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He also has  caught 50 passes for 353 yards (7.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.

Lee Suggs made a brief appearance for the Dolphins.  He played in 5 games and carried the ball 6 times for 26 yards (4.3 ypc).  For his career, Suggs has played in 30 games (3 starts) and he’s carried the ball 269 times for 1,074 yards (4.0 ypc) with 4 TD runs.  He also has caught 28 passes for 217 yards (7.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.

Dolphins hire Cam Cameron to be next head coach

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Dolfans News, General by ravenhater on Friday 19 January 2007 at 6:53 pm

The Dolphins wanted an offensive type head coach and they got one in Cam Cameron.  Cameron has been the offensive co-ordinator of the San Diego Chargers from 2001-2006 and the Chargers really excelled on that side of the football as they led the league in scoring by averaging 30.8 points per game this season.  He can only help the offense of the Dolphins as they only averaged 16.3 points per game last season.  Cameron has head coaching experience with the Indiana Hoosiers from 1997-2001.  He compiled a record of 18-37, but it’s hard to blame him for that.  Coaching Indiana is like coming to a gun fight with a butter knife.  Cameron should do well for the Dolphins as he will at least make them exciting to watch….unlike last season.

Dolphins QBs were disappointing

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 6 January 2007 at 3:18 pm

The Dolphins expected alot out of their QBs, but they didn’t get much out of the position.  Joey Harrington started 11 games and completed 223 of 388 passes (57.5%) for 2,236 yards with 12 TD passes and 15 interceptions (68.2 QB rating).  He also ran the ball 19 times for 24 yards (1.3 ypc).  For his career, Harrington has played in 69 games (66 starts) and has completed 1,209 of 2,190 passes (55.2%) for 12,478 yards with 72 TD passes and 77 interceptions (68.1 QB Rating).  He also has run the ball 128 times for 369 yards (2.9 ypc).

Daunte Culpepper was supposed to be the answer for the Dolphins at QB, but his knee was still giving him problems and he played poorly.  Culpepper started 4 games and completed 81 of 134 passes (60.4%) for 929 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 interceptions (77.0 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 10 times for 20 yards (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  For his career, Culpepper has played in 85 games (84 starts) and has completed 1,759 of 2,741 passes (64.2%) for 21,091 yards with 137 TD passes and 89 interceptions (90.8 QB Rating).  He also has run the ball 464 times for 2,496 yards (5.4 ypc) with 30 TD runs.

Cleo Lemon appeared in 4 games (1 start) and he csompleted 38 of 68 passes (55.9%) for 412 yards with 2 TDs and 1 interception (77.6 QB rating).  He also carried the ball 3 times for 7 yards (2.3 ypc).

Nick Saban leaves the Dolphins for head coaching job at Alabama

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Dolfans News, General by ravenhater on Wednesday 3 January 2007 at 7:17 pm

Nick Saban said over and over yesterday that he wasn’t interested in the Alabama job and then signed on to coach them today.  Saban had a two year record for the Dolphins of 15-17 (including 6-10 this season).  Saban was just overmatched at the NFL level like so many college coaches have been.  Saban found out that it’s harder to coach when you have to play 8 road games and you can’t make your own schedule.  Hopefully the Dolphins will get an NFL coach to run the show next.
