The Miami Dolphins’ running game will all hinge on Ronnie Brown
Last season Sammy Morris was a good caddy for Ronnie Brown but this season the training wheels are coming off of Brown and he will be expected to carry the bulk of the workload. Brown played in 13 games (12 starts) last season for the Dolphins and he carried the ball 241 times for 1,008 yards (4.2 ypc) with 5 TD runs. He also caught 33 passes for 276 yards (8.4 avg) with 0 TD grabs. Brown has always split carries even in college at Auburn with Cadillac Williams so it will be interesting to see how he handles being the undisputed main man. Brown is the key player on offense for the Dolphins as their is no telling how well Trent Green will play this season. Brown has played in 28 games (26 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 448 times for 1,915 yards (4.3 ypc) with 9 TD runs. He also has caught 65 passes for 508 yards (7.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.
Rookie Lorenzo Booker from Florida State will likely be the 3rd down back for the Dolphins as he is a better receiver than Ronnie Brown. But if Brown gets hurt it will be interesting to see how the Dolphins handle the running game because Booker is likely to small to carry the load.
Jesse Chatman will get a chance to get his NFL career back on track with the Dolphins. He has not played in the NFL since 2004 with the San Diego Chargers. Chatman is a load in between the tackles as he is a 5’8″, 245 pound bulldozer. He has played in 41 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 79 times for 428 yards (5.4 ypc) with 3 TD runs. He also has caught 10 passes for 115 yards (11.5 avg) with 0 TD grabs. He will likely get some carries in short yardage situations.
Patrick Cobbs is the likely #4 running back on the Dolphins but he doesn’t have much to offer. He has played in 3 games in his NFL career and he hasn’t carried the ball or caught a pass.
