Hopefully QB John Beck can lead the Miami Dolphins to a win this season

Poor John Beck….he was thrown into the fire against the Eagles and Steelers who have two of the most complicated and tough defenses in the NFL.  Look for Beck to play well against 3 of the 5 teams left on the schedule (Jets, Bengals and Bills) and give the Dolphins a legit chance to get a win.  Beck has completed 23 of 45 passes (51.1%) for 241 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs (67.0 QB Rating) so far this season.  Look for him to have a big game this weekend against the soft Jets defense.

The horrible field conditions evened up this football game and the Dolphins put up a good fight before falling with 17 seconds left in the game.  John Beck completed 14 of 23 passes for 132 yards and he lost a fumble in this game.  Jesse Chatman carried the ball 11 times for 17 yards (1.5 ypc).  Ricky Williams played his first and last game of the season as he carried the ball 6 times for 15 yards (2.5 ypc) and he lost a fumble.  Marty Booker led the Dolphins in receiving with 5 catches for 54 yards (10.8 avg).  The Dolphins finished up with 49 yards rushing on 23 carries (2.1 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 24 passes for 110 yards.

Linebackers Channing Crowder (12 tackles, 1/2 sack) and Joey Porter (8 tackles, interception) both played outstanding as did the rest of the defense in this game.  The Steelers finished up with 84 yards rushing on 29 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 21 passes for 132 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles 17, Miami Dolphins 7

The Miami Dolphins played an awful game yesterday to earn their 10th straight loss of the season.  John Beck made his debut at QB and it wasn’t pretty as he only completed 9 of 22 passes for 109 yards.  Jesse Chatman had a solid game with 22 carries for 72 yards (3.3 ypc).  Ted Ginn Jr. had by far the best game of his NFL career as he caught 4 passes for 52 yards (13.0 avg).  But his biggest contribution was in the return game as he returned 2 kickoffs for 52 yards (26.0 avg) and he also returned 3 punts for 99 yards (33.0 avg) including an 87-yarder for a TD.  The Dolphins finished up with 77 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 9 of 22 passes for 109 yards.

Channing Crowder led the way for the Fins with 12 tackles.  Safety Jason Allen also had an outstanding game with 6 tackles and 2 interceptions.  The Eagles finished up with 202 yards rushing on 39 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 30 passes for 150 yards.

Miami Dolphins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

These two teams go into Sunday’s game with different agendas.  The Dolphins just want to win a game while the Eagles are looking to win their second game in a row for the first time this season.  The Dolphins are going to throw rookie QB John Beck into the fire and start him in Philly.  With that in mind, the Dolphins will likely try to keep the ball on the ground with Jesse Chatman who is averaging 5.1 ypc this season.  It’s too bad that the Dolphins WR corps has stunk it up this season because the Eagles can be passed on as they allow 222.1 yards per game thru the air.

The Dolphins will be in big trouble this weekend because they don’t have a linebacker that can stop Brian Westbrook in both the running and passing game.  Look for Donovan McNabb to play well again this week after his 4-TD passing game last weekend against the Redskins.  The Dolphins secondary pales in comparison to what the Redskins had.

PREDICTION:  This is a tough place for a rookie QB to make his first start.  PREDICTION:  EAGLES 28, DOLPHINS 10

Buffalo Bills 13, Miami Dolphins 10

The Dolphins would have won this game if they could have just moved the ball a little better as they held onto the football for 36:59 of this game.  Cleo Lemon had a sub par game as he completed 16 of 29 passes for 131 yards and he also carried the ball 6 times for 17 yards (2.8 ypc) with a TD run.  Jesse Chatman was basically the whole offense for the Fins in this game as he carried the ball 27 times for 124 yards (4.6 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 25 yards (5.0 avg).  The Dolphins finished up this game with 143 yards rushing on 38 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 29 passes for 126 yards.

Linebacker Channing Crowder led the way for the Dolphins defense with 8 tackles.  The Fins defense was impressive in this football game as they held the Bills to only 214 total yards of offense.  The Bills finished up this game with 63 yards rushing on 25 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 23 passes for 151 yards.
