The Dolphins have traded center Samson Satele to the Raiders for a 6th round pick in this April’s NFL Draft.  The Dolphins will also swap picks in another round with the Raiders which is to their benefit.  Satele started every game of his NFL career (32 games) for the Dolphins.  The Dolphins felt Satele was a little soft and have replaced him with free agent Jake Grove.

The Miami Dolphins had a so-so draft last April

The Miami Dolphins hit a home run in the 1st round of the NFL Draft last April selecting OT Jake Long.  Long started all 16 games for the Dolphins last season at left tackle and he should be a perennial pro bowler for the Dolphins.  The Dolphins expected 2nd rounder (DE) Phillip Merling to make more of a impact last season.  He played in 16 games (2 starts) for the Fins’ in 2008 and he made 26 tackles, defensed 2 passes and he had a interception (that he returned 25-yards for a TD.  QB Chad Henne was the other 2nd round pick for the Dolphins last season and he appears to be the team’s QB of the future.  He played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Dolphins last season and he completed 7 of 12 passes (58.3%) for 67 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 interceptions (74.0 QB Rating).  3rd round pick (DE) Kendall Langford has the potential to develop into a impact player down the road for the Dolphins.  He played in 16 games (13 starts) for the Dolphins last season and he made 31 tackles, had 2 sacks and he defensed 3 passes.  4th round pick (OG) Shawn Murphy was a huge disappointment for the Dolphins last season as he didn’t make it to the field as a rookie.  6th round RB Jalen Parmele was cut before the season started and he was picked up by the Ravens playing 1 game for them.  Fellow 6th rounder (OG) Donald Thomas won a starting job for the Dolphins but he suffered a major LisFranc injury to one of his feet ending his season in the opener.  6th round fullback Lex Hilliard was another pick that never made it to the field.  In the 7th round the Dolphins selected DE Lionel Dotson who played in 2 games (0 starts) and he made 1 whole tackle.

The Miami Dolphins acquire DT Tony McDaniel from the Jaguars

Blogged under Trades, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Dolfans News, General by admin on Thursday 19 March 2009 at 9:53 pm

The Miami Dolphins have acquired 24-year old DT Tony McDaniel from the Jaguars for a 7th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. McDaniel played in 10 games for the Jaguars last season and he made 16 tackles, defensed 2 passes and had 1/2 a sack. McDaniel has now played three seasons in the NFL covering 25 games in which he has made 37 tackles, defensed 4 passes and has 1.5 sacks. This was a good trade for the Dolphins as 7th round picks are sometimes throwaways and McDaniel should help them this season.

The Dolphins have signed 26-year old cornerback Eric Green to a multi year contract.  Green played in 13 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 32 tackles, defensed 5 passes and he had a interception.  He has now played in 51 games in his NFL career and he has made 168 tackles, defensed 31 passes, forced 2 fumbles and he has 2 interceptions.  This was a good signing for the Dolphins who needed help at CB.

The Miami Dolphins have signed center Jake Grove to a 5-year, $29.5 million dollar contract.  The 29-year old Grove played in 12 games (all starts) for the Raiders last season.  He has played 5 seasons in the NFL and he has played in 54 games (46 starts).  Grove immediately improves the interior of the offensive line for the Dolphins as this was a good move for them.
