The Miami Dolphins sign QB Sage Rosenfels

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 6 October 2011 at 10:58 pm

The Dolphins have signed 33-year old QB Sage Rosenfels.  Rosenfels played in 12 games (0 starts) for the New York Giants last year but he didn’t throw any passes.  He did carry the ball 3 times for -3 yards (-1.0 ypc) last year.  Rosenfels has now played in 44 games (12 starts) in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has completed 351 of 562 passes (62.5%) for 4,156 yards with 30 TD passes and 29 INTs (81.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 48 times for 95 yards (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his NFL career.  Rosenfels is 6-6 as a starting QB in the NFL so far in his career.  Rosenfels might push Matt Moore for the starting job at QB in the near future.

UPDATE:  (10/26/2011) – The Dolphins have placed Sage Rosenfels on the Injured Reserve list, ending his season, due to an undisclosed illness).

UPDATE:  (12/1/2011) – The Dolphins have waived Sage Rosenfels.

Chad Henne might miss the rest of the season for the Miami Dolphins

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 1:16 am

26-year old QB Chad Henne has a separated left shoulder which could cause him to miss the rest of the 2011 season.  Even if he does come back, it wouldn’t be until very late in the season.  Henne has played in all four games for the Dolphins so far this year and he has completed 64 of 112 passes (57.1%) for 868 yards with 4 TD passes and 4 INTs (79.0 QB Rating).  Henne has also carried the ball 15 times for 112 yards (7.5 ypc) with 1 TD run so far this year.  Dolphins’ fans have been rough on Henne as they wanted him replaced in the off-season.  Be careful of what you wish for.  27-year old Matt Moore will take over as the starting QB for the Dolphins going forward.  He has played in 1 game for the Fins so far this year and he has completed 17 of 26 passes (65.4%) for 167 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (67.3 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 1 time for -1 yard so far this year.  Moore couldn’t keep the starting job for the Carolina Panthers last year, so don’t expect miracles out of him.  The Fins will need to sign a legit QB to either challenge Moore for the starting job or to back him up, as they only have undrafted rookie Pat Devlin out of Delaware behind him on the roster.

UPDATE:  (9/6/2011) – Chad Henne will miss the rest of the season.

The Miami Dolphins claim RB Steve Slaton off waivers

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 29 September 2011 at 10:49 pm

The Dolphins have claimed 25-year old RB Steve Slaton off waivers from the Texans.  Slaton played in all 3 games for the Texans this year and he carried the ball 7 times for 20 yards (2.9 ypc).  He also caught 1 pass for 6 yards this year for the Texans.  Slaton has now played in 42 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 425 times for 1,832 yards (4.3 ypc) with 12 TD runs.  He has also caught 98 passes for 811 yards (8.3 avg) with 5 TD grabs in his career.  Slaton might actually push Reggie Bush for touches in Miami.  This was a good pickup for them.

The Miami Dolphins sign DE Igor Olshansky

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 21 September 2011 at 1:50 pm

The Dolphins have signed 29-year old DE Igor Olshansky.  Olshansky played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last year and he had 38 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 107 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 257 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 12 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 8 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This was a good signing for the Dolphins as you can never have too many quality DEs on your roster.

The Miami Dolphins sign CB Nate Jones

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 21 September 2011 at 1:48 pm

The Dolphins have signed 29-year old cornerback Nate Jones.  Jones played in all 16 games for the Broncos last year and he had 57 tackles and 3 passes defensed.  He played with the Dolphins in 2008+2009.  He played in 32 games in his two years with the Fins and he had 77 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 3 interceptions, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.  Jones has now played in 99 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 212 tackles, 16 passes defensed, 3 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 6 sacks and 1 tackle for a loss.  The Dolphins need all of the help in the secondary that they can get, so Jones is going to be a nice addition to the team.  To make room on the roster for Jones, the Dolphins have cut TE Dante Rosario.  Rosario played in both of the Fins games this year but he didn’t catch any passes.

The Miami Dolphins lose DE Tony McDaniel for the next couple of weeks

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 10:30 pm

The Miami Dolphins will be without 26-year old DE Tony McDaniel for the next couple of weeks after undergoing minor surgery to his hand.  He played in the season opener against the Patriots but he didn’t have any tackles.  McDaniel has now played in 32 games in his first three years with the Fins and he had 52 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks and he has defensed 5 passes.  The Dolphins are loaded at DE this year, so they shouldn’t miss him too much until he’s ready to return to action.

The Miami Dolphins waive CB Benny Sapp

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 14 September 2011 at 1:00 pm

The Dolphins have waived 30-year old cornerback Benny Sapp.  Sapp played against the Patriots last Monday Night and he had 4 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  Sapp played in 17 games in his two years with the Dolphins and he had 45 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 3 tackles for a loss.  Sapp was a scapegoat for the secondary’s performance last Monday Night, because the Dolphins couldn’t get rid of all of their DBs.

The Miami Dolphins sign Ryan Cook

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 9:30 pm

The Dolphins have signed 28-year old offensive lineman Ryan Cook.  Cook played in 16 games (7 starts) for the Vikings last year.  He has now played in 70 games (40 starts) in his first five yeras in the NFL.  The Dolphins will benefit from Cook’s versatility along the offensive line as he can handle playing center, guard or tackle.

The Miami Dolphins sign TE Dante Rosario

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 9:28 pm

The Dolphins have signed 26-year old TE Dante Rosario.  Rosario played in 16 games (6 starts) with the Panthers last year and he had 32 grabs for 264 yards (8.3 avg).  He has now played in 62 games (22 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 82 passes for 894 yards (10.9 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Rosario is a decent TE who should be able to help the offense when he’s on the field.

The Miami Dolphins have placed OT Lydon Murtha on I.R.

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 4:35 pm

The Dolphins have placed 25-year old OT Lydon Murtha on the Injured Reserve List due to an undisclosed injury.  Murtha played in 8 games (4 starts) for the Dolphins last year.  He has now played in 9 games (4 starts) for the Fins in his first two years in the NFL.  This shouldn’t hurt the Dolphins too much for 2011 as Murtha was expected to be a backup.
