The Miami Dolphins waive CB Benny Sapp

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 14 September 2011 at 1:00 pm

The Dolphins have waived 30-year old cornerback Benny Sapp.  Sapp played against the Patriots last Monday Night and he had 4 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  Sapp played in 17 games in his two years with the Dolphins and he had 45 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 3 tackles for a loss.  Sapp was a scapegoat for the secondary’s performance last Monday Night, because the Dolphins couldn’t get rid of all of their DBs.

The Dolphins have signed 28-year old offensive lineman Ryan Cook.  Cook played in 16 games (7 starts) for the Vikings last year.  He has now played in 70 games (40 starts) in his first five yeras in the NFL.  The Dolphins will benefit from Cook’s versatility along the offensive line as he can handle playing center, guard or tackle.

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 9:28 pm

The Dolphins have signed 26-year old TE Dante Rosario.  Rosario played in 16 games (6 starts) with the Panthers last year and he had 32 grabs for 264 yards (8.3 avg).  He has now played in 62 games (22 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 82 passes for 894 yards (10.9 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Rosario is a decent TE who should be able to help the offense when he’s on the field.

The Miami Dolphins have placed OT Lydon Murtha on I.R.

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 4:35 pm

The Dolphins have placed 25-year old OT Lydon Murtha on the Injured Reserve List due to an undisclosed injury.  Murtha played in 8 games (4 starts) for the Dolphins last year.  He has now played in 9 games (4 starts) for the Fins in his first two years in the NFL.  This shouldn’t hurt the Dolphins too much for 2011 as Murtha was expected to be a backup.

The Miami Dolphins release CB Will Allen

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 12:58 pm

The Dolphins have released 33-year old CB Will Allen.  Allen played in 6 games for the Dolphins last year and he had 21 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 6 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  He played in 53 games in his four seasons with the Fins and he had 190 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 46 passes defensed and 7 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  The Fins wanted to go with younger players at CB and that led to Allen’s release.

UPDATE:  (9/14/2011) – The Dolphins have re-signed Will Allen.

The Miami Dolphins lose OT Allen Barbre for the 2011 season

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 31 August 2011 at 11:51 pm

The Dolphins have placed 27-year old OT Allen Barbre on the Injured Reserve List ending his 2011 season.  He played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks & Dolphins last year.  He has now played in 28 games (7 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  This will hurt the Dolphins’ depth along the O-Line.

The Miami Dolphins sign safety Gerald Alexander

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 29 August 2011 at 1:04 pm

The Dolphins have signed 27-year old safety Gerald Alexander.  Alexander played in 3 games for the Jaguars last year and he had 16 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 3 passes defensed.  He has now played in 39 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 159 tackles, 14 passes defensed, 4 interceptions, 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was a good signing for the Dolphins so late in the preseason.

UPDATE:  (9/3/2011) – The Dolphins have released Gerald Alexander.

The Miami Dolphins sign Larry Johnson

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at 6:29 pm

The Dolphins have signed 31-year old RB Larry Johnson.  Johnson played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Redskins last year and he carried the ball 5 times for 2 yards (0.4 ypc).  He has now played in 84 games (55 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 1,426 times for 6,221 yards (4.4 ypc) with 55 TD runs.  Johnson has also caught 154 passes for 1,373 yards (8.9 avg) with 6 TD grabs in his NFL career.  Johnson will have a good shot to beat out Lex Hilliard for the #3 RB in 2011, if he can show that he still has a lot left in the gas tank the next couple of weeks.  I like this move for the Dolphins as they don’t have much to lose in giving Johnson a tryout.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Dolphins have released Larry Johnson.

UPDATE:  (9/8/2011) – The Dolphins have re-signed Larry Johnson.

The Miami Dolphins sign LB Marvin Mitchell

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 15 August 2011 at 4:00 pm

The Dolphins have signed 26-year old linebacker Marvin Mitchell.  Mitchell played in all 16 games for the Saints last year and he had 43 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 55 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 89 tackles, 1 sack, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 passes defensed.  This was a good signing for the Dolphins as Mitchell will give them depth at LB while also helping out on special teams.

The Miami Dolphins sign OT Ray Willis

Blogged under Big Dolfans News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 6 August 2011 at 3:45 pm

The Dolphins have signed 28-year old OT Ray Willis.  Willis didn’t play last year for the Seahawks due to injury.  He has played in 44 games (26 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  This was a good signing for the Dolphins as you can never have too many quality offensive linemen on the roster.
