The Dolphins have signed 28-year old linebacker Karlos Dansby to a 5-year, $43 million dollar deal of which $22 million bucks are guaranteed.  Dansby played in all 16 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 109 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, forced a fumble, had 1 sack, defensed 1 pass and he had 1 interception.  Dansby has played in 90 games in his NFL career and he has made 555 tackles, defensed 29 passes, forced 12 fumbles, has 25.5 sacks and he has 10 interceptions (two of which he returned for TDs).  This was a outstanding signing for the Dolphins as Dansby is a hard nosed player who makes plays.

The Dolphins have signed 27-year old CB Evan Oglesby.  Oglesby played in 9 games for the Ravens last season and he made 14 tackles.  He has now played in 4 years in his NFL career appearing in 36 games in which he has 35 tackles and 2 passes defensed.  This was a decent signing as Oglesby will provide depth in the secondary and he will likely help out on special teams.

The Miami Dolphins sign OT Lydon Murtha

The Dolphins have signed 23-year old rookie OT Lydon Murtha off of the Lions’ practice squad.  The 6′7″, 307 pound Murtha was a 7th round pick out of Nebraska but the Dolphins must have liked something they saw out of him on tape to take a chance on him.  The Dolphins released 26-year old OG Shawn Murphy to make room on the roster for him.  He has not played in any regular season games in his two years with the Dolphins as he always seems to be hurt.

UPDATE:  Shawn Murphy has been claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers off waivers from the Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins sign kicker Connor Barth

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Dolfans News, General by admin on Saturday 15 August 2009 at 10:06 pm

The Dolphins have signed 23-year old kicker Connor Barth.  Barth played in 10 games for the Chiefs last season and he connected on 10 of 12 field goals (83.3%) and all 24 of his extra point attempts.  Barth will battle incumbent kicker Dan Carpenter this pre-season for the starting kicker job in 2009 for the Dolphins.  Competition is always good for jobs so this was a smart move for the Fins.

UPDATE:  The Dolphins have released Connor Barth as he was beaten out for the kicking job by Dan Carpenter.

The Miami Dolphins bring back Jason Taylor

The Miami Dolphins have signed 34-year old OLB/DE Jason Taylor to a 1-year, $1.1 million dollar contract.  Taylor played in 13 games for the Redskins last season and he made 29 tackles, defensed 9 passes, had 3.5 sacks and he forced 1 fumble.  Taylor has come back home to the Dolphins to finish up his certain Hall of Fame NFL career.  Taylor has now played in 185 games in his NFL career and he has made 678 tackles, has defensed 81 passes, has 120.5 sacks, he has forced 41 fumbles and he has intercepted 7 passes (3 of which he returned for TDs).  This was a great move for the Dolphins.
