Miami Dolphins (0-6) vs. New York Giants (4-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 28 October 2011 at 6:45 pm

The Miami Dolphins seemed to hit rock bottom last weekend in losing a 15-point lead in less than three minutes and then losing in O.T. at home to the Broncos!  They will need to play hard the whole game long in order to keep this game close.  The Giants have had two weeks to get ready for the Fins.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Dolphins will want to run the ball against the Giants this weekend with Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush splitting the carries.  The Giants have given up 127.7 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry, so the Fins likely have a solid plan.  The Giants already have 21 sacks this year and the Dolphins O-Line has already given up 22 of them this year.  That means that Matt Moore is going to have to keep the passing game of the shorter variety.  Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Reggie Bush and Anthony Fasano are plenty capable of catching short passes.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Giants are likely to remain pretty balanced this Sunday with Ahmad Bradshaw running the ball and Eli Manning chucking it down the field.  The Dolphins are giving up 119.5 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry so far this year, so Bradshaw should be able to post another solid game this Sunday.  The Dolphins better hope that OLB Cameron Wake can get after Eli Manning, because if he has time to throw the ball…..they are in trouble.  Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham are each more than capable of having a big game against the Dolphins this Sunday.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 30, DOLPHINS 17

The Broncos played good enough to win this game for 3.5 quarters….but then the roof caved in.  Matt Moore completed 22 of 33 passes for 197 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  But, he lost the fumble in O.T. to set up Broncos’ kicker Matt Prater for the game winning 52-yard field goal.  Daniel Thomas led the way on the ground for the Dolphins in this game with 53 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.8 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 0 yards in this game.  Reggie Bush pitched in with 42 yards rushing on 10 carries (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 4 yards in this game.  WR Brandon Marshall (6 rec, 61 yards), WR Davone Bess (7 rec, 52 yards) and TE Anthony Fasano (2 rec, 22 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Dolphins.  The Dolphins finished up with 94 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 33 passes (66.7%) for 173 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:19.

The Miami Dolphins stunk it up offensively last night and it really did them in.  Matt Moore didn’t look too sharp in his first start at QB for the Dolphins.  He completed 16 of 34 passes for 204 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs (one was returned 100 yards for a TD by Jets’ CB Darrelle Revis).  Reggie Bush ran the ball well as he rushed for 71 yards on 10 carries (7.1 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 7 yards.  RB Daniel Thomas pitched in with 47 yards rushing on 15 carries (3.1 ypc) for the Fins in this game.  WR Brandon Marshall was up to the challenge last night as he caught 6 passes for 109 yards (18.2 avg) in this game.  Brian Hartline (3 rec, 27 yards) and Davone Bess (2 rec, 21 yards, and a lost fumble) had off games for the Dolphins last night.  The Dolphins finished up with 118 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 34 passes (47.1%) for 190 yars as they only had possession of the ball for 29:39.

San Diego Chargers 26, Miami Dolphins 16

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 3 October 2011 at 3:59 am

The Dolphins played another pretty stinky game in San Diego today.  Chad Henne didn’t last long due to injury.  He completed 3 of 4 passes for 27 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Matt Moore finished up this game at QB and he completed 17 of 26 passes for 167 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Reggie Bush led the way on the ground in this game with 50 yards rushing on 13 carries (3.8 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 15 yards (7.5 avg).  Lex Hilliard pitched in with 6 carries for 20 yards (3.3 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 18 yards.  Brandon Marshall led the way in the passing game for the Fins with 5 grabs for 52 yards (10.4 avg).  The Dolphins finished up with 72 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 30 passes (66.7%) for 176 yards as they had possession of the ball for 26:42.

The defense really sucked today to the Dolphins.  Safety Yeremiah Bell led the way for the Fins with 14 tackles.  LBs Marvin Mitchell (4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit) and Cameron Wake (3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit) also pitched in for the Fins.  The Chargers finished up with 116 yards rushing on 28 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 31 passes (67.7%) for 295 yards.  The Dolphins are now 0-4 on the year.

Cleveland Browns 17, Miami Dolphins 16

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 26 September 2011 at 11:31 am

The Dolphins played solid football for the most part until the last time the Cleveland Browns had the ball when they drove right down the field for the game winning TD.  Chad Henne was under duress the whole game yesterday as he was sacked 5 times yesterday.  He completed 19 of 29 passes for 255 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 15 yards (5.0 ypc) for the Fins in this game.  Donald Thomas led the way on the ground for the Dolphins again yesterday as he rushed for 95 yards on 23 carries (4.1 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 27 yards (9.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Reggie Bush looked terrible once again yesterday as he rushed for 24 yards on 11 carries (2.2 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 12 yards.  Bush also lost a fumble in this game.  WRs Brian Hartline (4 rec, 87 yards), Davone Bess (5 rec, 52 yards) and Brandon Marshall (4 rec, 43 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Dolphins.  The Dolphins finished up with 138 yards rushing on 38 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 29 passes (65.5%) for 231 yards as they had possession of the ball for 37:51.

The defense was outstanding until the last time the Browns had the football.  CB Sean Smith (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed), safety Yeremiah Bell (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and CB Jimmy Wilson (interception) led the way for the Fins’ D yesterday in Cleveland.  The Browns rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 39 passes (48.7%) for 210 yards.  The Dolphins are now 0-3 on the year.

Houston Texans 23, Miami Dolphins 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by admin on Monday 19 September 2011 at 10:50 pm

The Dolphins just made too many mistakes to beat a team as good as the Texans yesterday.  Kicker Dan Carpenter missed two field goals and that really hurt the Fins yesterday.  Chad Henne played pretty poorly yesterday as he only completed 12 of 30 passes for 170 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 26 yards (8.7 ypc) for the Fins.  Rookie RB Daniel Thomas took over as the main man in the running game and he looked pretty darn good.  Thomas carried the ball 18 times for 107 yards (5.9 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 10 yards.  Reggie Bush spent most of this game on the sidelines for the Fins.  He carried the ball 6 times for 18 yards (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 3 yards.  WR Brandon Marshall led the way for the Dolphins in this game with 6 grabs for 79 yards (13.2 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WRs Davone Bess (2 rec, 42 yards) and Brian Hartline (2 rec, 36 yards) also pitched in for the Dolphins in this game.  The Dolphins finished up with 153 yards on 28 carries (5.5 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 30 passes (40%) for 153 yards as they had possession of the ball for 25:54.

The defense was so-so yesterday, but much improved over last Monday Night against the Patriots.  Safety Yeremiah Bell led the way for the Dolphins in this game with 9 tackles.  DE Randy Starks (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), CB Vontae Davis (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit), safety Reshad Jones (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) and CB Sean Smith (6 tackles) also pitched in.  The Texans finished up with 138 yards rushing on 36 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 29 passes (72.4%) for 207 yards.  The Dolphins are now 0-2 on the year.

The Dolphins just couldn’t keep up with the Patriots due to some lousy play defensively.  Chad Henne did his best to keep up with the Patriots.  Henne completed 30 of 49 passes for 416 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 59 yards (8.4 ypc) with 1 TD run last night as he was fantastic all the way around.  Reggie Bush was active in this game for the Fins as he carried the ball 11 times for 38 yards (3.5 ypc).  He also caught 9 passes for 56 yards (6.2 avg) with 1 TD grab in this game.  WR Brandon Marshall had a huge game for the Dolphins last night as he caught 7 passes for 139 yards (19.9 avg).  WR Davone Bess (5 rec, 92 yards), TE Anthony Fasano (5 rec, 82 yards) and WR Brian Hartline (4 rec, 47 yards, TD) also were big parts of the passing game against the Patriots.  The Dolphins carried the ball 20 times for 98 yards (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 30 of 49 passes (61.2%) for 390 yards as they had possession of the ball for 31:33.

The defense was awful for the Dolphins last night as they couldn’t stop Tom Brady and his passing attack.  Safeties Reshad Jones (12 tackles and 1 pass defensed) and Yeremiah Bell (9 tackles) were chasing a lot of TEs and WRs last night.  DE Jared Odrick had 2 tackles, 1 pass defensed and an incredible interception that he returned 39 yards.  The Patriots finished up with 106 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 32 of 48 passes (66.7%) for 516 yards in this game.  The Dolphins start out the 2011 season with an 0-1 record.

The Miami Dolphins got destroyed in Foxboro yesterday by Tom Brady and a bunch of backup players.  Chad Henne was awful once again yesterday as he completed 6 of 16 passes for 71 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Tyler Thigpen was a little bit better as he completed 10 of 21 passes for 169 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 21 yards (7.0 ypc) in this game.  Ronnie Brown could only muster 14 yards rushing on 6 carries (2.3 ypc) but he did catch 3 passes for 39 yards (13.0 avg).  Ricky Williams only rushed for 5 yards on 6 carries (0.8 ypc) and he lost a fumble.  WRs Brandon Marshall (5 rec, 97 yards) and Davone Bess (3 rec, 35 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Dolphins yesterday.  The Dolphins finished up with 44 yards rushing on 16 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 37 passes for 206 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 23:41.

The defense was pathetic for the Dolphins yesterday.  LB Tim Dobbins (11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), safety Tyrone Culver (7 tackles) and DE Paul Soliai (6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery) led the way for the Fins’ on D in this game.  The Patriots finished up with 181 yards rushing on 45 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 29 passes for 321 yards.  The Dolphins also had a huge blip on special teams as Patriots’ WR Julian Edelman returned a punt 94 yards for a TD yesterday.  The Dolphins finished in 3rd place in the AFC East with a 7-9 record.
