The Dolphins were very conservative offensively and they made some big plays on defense to hold off the Cowboys last night.  Matt Moore started at QB for the Fins last night and he completed 9 of 11 passes for 142 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs, as he looked pretty sharp.  Kevin O’Connell threw 1 incomplete pass and he carried the ball 2 times for 9 yards (4.5 ypc) in this game.  Rookie QB Pat Devlin completed all 3 of his pass attempts, good for 30 yards passing.  Larry Johnson led the way for the Fins in the running game last night with 39 yards rushing on 10 carries (3.9 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Daniel Thomas was also solid with 36 yards on 8 carries (4.5 ypc) in this game.  WR Clyde Gates (1 rec, 42 yards) and TE Jeron Mastrud (1 rec, 18 yards, TD) led the way for the Dolphins in the passing game.  The Dolphins finished up with 106 yards on 29 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 15 passes (80%) for 172 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 23:38.

The D was very active as they held the Cowboys to 3 points in this game.  LB A.J. Edds (6 tackles), CB Will Allen (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and LB Marvin Mitchell (5 tackles) led the way for the Dolphins in this game.  DE Ryan Baker (4 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) and LB Jason Trusnik (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) also looked sharp in this game for the Fins.  The Cowboys finished up with 94 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 36 passes (72.2%) for 295 yards in this game.  The Dolphins finished up the preseason with a 3-1 record.

Where has the Miami Dolphins’ running game been this preseason?

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up,The Pre-Season by admin on Thursday 1 September 2011 at 12:42 pm

The Dolphins are only averaging 83.0 yards rushing per game and an awful 2.9 yards per carry so far in the preseason.  The Fins are going to depend on rookie 2nd round pick Daniel Thomas and veteran Reggie Bush to carry the running game in 2011, and they have not looked good so far.  Thomas has carried the ball 23 times for 73 yards (3.2 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in the preseason.  Bush has carried the ball 13 times for 47 yards (3.6 ypc) in the preseason.  On a bright note, they have combined to catch 6 passes for 100 yards (16.7 avg) so far in the preseason.  The Dolphins need Thomas & Bush to give the offense balance in 2011 by running the ball well.  It will be interesting to see if they are up for the challenge or not.

The Dolphins’ offense looked good in the first half but dormant in the second half and it cost them this game.  Chad Henne looked sharp in completing 10 of 13 passes for 175 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  Matt Moore was not so good as he completed 8 of 16 passes for 90 yards without a TD pass or interception.  Daniel Thomas led the way for the Dolphins in the running game last night with 16 yards rushing on 7 carries (2.3 ypc).  Larry Johnson got his first action with the Fins last night and he carried the ball 2 times for 7 yards (3.5 ypc).  Reggie Bush carried the ball 5 times for -1 yard (-0.2 ypc) but he also caught 2 passes for 23 yards (11.5 avg) in this game.  WR Brandon Marshall led the way in the passing game last night with 2 grabs for 90 yards (45.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WR Marlon Moore (2 rec, 41 yards) and TE Anthony Fasano (3 rec, 39 yards) also pitched in for the Fins in the passing game last night.  The Dolphins finished up with 22 yards rushing on 17 carries (1.3 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 29 passes (62.1%) for 225 yards in this game.

Marlon Moore appears to have won a roster spot with the Miami Dolphins

22-year old undrafted rookie WR Marlon Moore out of Fresno State appears to have won the #4 WR job for the Dolphins.  He will be behind Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline and Davone Bess so he likely won’t get much P.T. unless one of those guys gets hurt.  He has caught 5 passes for 74 yards (14.8 avg) and he has carried the ball 2 times for 13 yards (6.5 ypc) this pre-season for the Fins.  Moore’s making of the team continues to prove that hard work and determination can help you beat the odds.
